Possibilities of ecological and tourist improvement of devastated postindustrial areas are the main topic of the project. Both Piekary Śląskie and Košice used to be centres of heavy industry in the past. The factors still determinate modern image of the cities in a great measure. The authors of the project intend to encourage representatives of the young generation to transform their surroundings into green and tourist-friendly places and - in a wider sense - to participate in the social life of their regions actively. The participants will discuss the industrial heritages of Upper Silesia and Eastern Slovakia as well as the role of ecology in the modern world, deepen their knowledge about the basics of balanced development, take part in workshops of photography and landscape architecture as well as in meetings with dermatologist and gastroenterologist, prepare plans of improvement of selected areas, learn multilingual terminology concerning the issue as well as new computer programmes and technologies. They will prepare tourist informative boards concerning the industrial heritage and place them in their cities. Spherical panoramas, panoramic pictures, documentary films, exhibitions of photographs alluding to the main topic of the project will be produced and presented on the occasions of educational or ecological fairs, scientific conferences, Comenius and European Days and other events. Guidebooks and calendars containing the best photos of postindustrial objects in Piekary Śląskie, Kośice and their surroundings will be published. The participating students will visit the most interesting places in Southern Poland and Eastern Slovakia improving their knowledge about history, traditions and culture of the respective countries.
