THE STANISŁAW LIGOŃ VOCATIONAL SCHOOL, PIEKARY ŚLĄSKIE, POLAND

The Stanisław Ligoń Vocational School is an elementary technical school located in the very centre of the city of Piekary Śląskie. The students are between 16 and 19. They learn to be bakers, butchers, car sprayers, confectioners, cooks, electricians, hairdressers, mechanics, shop-assistants and other specialists in the future. Some classes are of integrated character for students with special educational needs.
The school has been active in the field of ecology for several years. The teachers and students have used to be distinguished for their ecological enterprises on numerous occasions. In 2011 the school was one of the organizers of a scientific conference entitled 115 Years of the Calvary in Piekary and some speeches concerning the ecological aspects of the place were delivered. Exhibition of photographs of nature taken by the Stanisław Ligoń Vocational School students was opened on the occasion. The Holy Mary & St. Bartholomew's Parish in Piekary Śląskie as well as the Piekary Ecological Association were co-organizers of the symposium. Some of the teachers have published papers on ecology of postindustrial Upper Silesian region in scientific and popular magazines. Students - members of the environmental school group clean the banks of the Brynica river (that flows through Piekary Śląskie), construct bird feeders and take part in ornithological obsrvations for scientific purposes. The proecological undertakings echo in the local media.

THE TECHNICAL VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL, KUKUČINOVA 23,
KOŠICE, SLOVAKIA

The Technical Vocational High School, Kukučinova 23 is located in the historical centre of Košice. The students come not only from the city, but from the whole region of Eastern Slovakia. The school accomodates students in its own boarding school where they can use a students' canteen, a gym, an outdoor grass football pitch and other opportunities for pleasant leisure time and resting. The school is equipped with the latest teaching technologies: both in the classrooms for theoretical studies and for practical trainings. Highly qualified emplyees and teachers take care of professional knowledge of the students as well as of their free time after the classes.
The school educational offer is as follows:
- 4 years progammes (maturity certificate and certificate of apprenticeship): mechanic of fire fighting equipment, mechanic of building operation equipment, mechanic of building and plumbing equipment, operator of wood-working and furniture-making, operator of environmental equipment, operator of building production, mechanic of electrical equipment;
- 3 years programmes (certificate of apprenticeship): cabinetmaker, painter, plumber, bricklayer, carpenter, tinsmith, roofer, tailor;
- 2 years programmes of post-secondary studies (maturity certificate): building industry, mechanical engineering, wood-working and furniture-making.
